First Responders are people who are trained to provide medical care to an emergency before other medical people arrive on the scene, they save lives everyday, and rarely get honored as they should. On September 9th, at the Marian football game, these first responders got to feel the respect that they deserve. They stood on the field along with the football players during the National Anthem. It was a great honor for the players to be able to stand alongside them at the game. The game was dedicated to all the victims of 9-11, and especially those first responders who gave their lives at ground zero.   David Jagman, a second generation firefighter, said, about the experience, that it was “Nice to know that everyone remembers and still cares”. David became a first responder because his dad was a firefighter and he grew up around the intense atmosphere that comes with being a first responder.

For most parents at the game they felt having their child’s school honor these brave men and women, was amazing.  To Peggy Truckenbrod, a parent who attended, it made her feel, “Proud that everyone was so quiet and respectful and it was very touching.” The crowd recognized how important is was to honor these first responders there since the 9-11 memorial was coming up. They felt comforted to know that people like those honored would be there to help them in an emergency.
