It’s been six months since the Korean pop band Got7 last had a concert in America. In that time, they have dropped a new album called “Turbulence” and a new music video for the song “Hard Carry”. In January, they began their third US tour, named after their most recent album. While you may not have heard of them, Got7 is one of the biggest upcoming music groups in South Korea. After making their seven  member debut in 2014, the group has continued to make fans, bringing in love both domestically  and internationally. While some may not understand why people enjoy music in a different language, others see music as universal and find the members to be relatable, especially as one member is from California and a most of them speak English fluently. The group came back to America with the goal of bringing in more fans and spreading the love of pop once again after Wonder Girls’ “Nobody” and Psy’s “Gangnam Style” both broke American charts.  The tour travels through five US cities, starting with Miami, Florida, and continuing through three other cities before ending in Los Angeles, California. On Wednesday January 25th, Got7 made their stop in Chicago, Illinois at the Rosemont Theater. While the concert did not start until 7pm, fans began lining up as early as 2pm. During the four hours until the gates opened at 6pm, fans brought along giant speakers to play music and others brought along mass amounts of handmade merchandise to hand out for free. At 6pm, fans rushed to get inside after the long hours of standing outside in the cold weather. Once the concert began, Got7 opened it up with two of their slow ballad songs. Afterwards, their host and translator came out and the seven membered band introduced themselves. They then picked questions off a board of sticky notes and answered them, leading to the great enjoyment of the crowd. They then performed two more songs, “Boom x3” and a fan favorite song from their “Just Right” album from 2015, the song bearing the same name as the album, “Just Right”. It was then the excitement truly began when Got7 were pulling seven fans on stage for a game. The fans were picked by the raffle tickets they received upon entering. The concert continued, with Got7 performing their latest hit songs, “Fly” and “If You Do” They then ended the show with their latest hit, “Hard Carry”. After the show, fans buzzed outside the building. Paige Tarzian  (10) spoke of the experience saying, “While I waited outside for over 2 hours, it was an amazing experience and all their staff was very friendly and made me feel super comfortable. Got7 interacted with their fans and each other awesomely and I can’t wait until they come back to the states”. At 9pm, the concert was done, but the work wasn’t over. The staff at Rosemont handed out a limited supply of free posters signed by the band. The band also had a meet and greet after the show, some getting what is called a “hi-touch”, a quick walkthrough meeting the band, and others getting both a “hi-touch”, and a photo with the seven band members. Then finally, after a long and eventful day, both the band members and fans traveled back to their home or hotel for some rest after all the energy from the concert was gone.
