After school on September 16th and 17th the Marian theater held its auditions for the annual fall play. This year’s selection is You Can’t Take It With You, a comedy about the lives of two very different families coming together in one very explosive tale of love and family bonding. In contrast to the murder mystery themed Rehearsal for Murder, this show offers a larger cast and a more comical plot line.

Before auditions, small groups gathered to practice their lines in the theater commons. Mariel Ronquillo (11), like many other actors and actresses, was nervous despite the fact she has been in shows prior to this one. Aside from the nervousness, almost all members of the theater “family” expressed excitement for the production to begin.

As the groups proceeded into the theater one at a time, Mrs. Loy, Father Doyle and Mrs. Nothnagel waited anxiously to pick the cast of this years show. quote. When the auditions concluded, the actors left relieved, but still had to play the waiting game to find out who was selected for roles. One role that was sought after by several actresses was Penny Sycamore, “the enthusiastic, ray of sunshine” as described by Ronquillo. One of the best features of this year’s production is that the cast is double the size which allows for more people to be able to perform.

Among the performers, this play selection is a hit. “I really like the play choice. It shows a group of diverse characters with their little quirks and how they interact with each other and I think that is a wonderful idea!”, explains Kaylyn Kunz (10). The students are looking forward to many more wonderful choices like this one. Some shows that would like to be seen by student performers are Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast and many more. Be sure to come check out the final production on October 23rd-24th at 7pm.

I will be a junior this year and this is my first time being on the publications staff. I love to write but find myself more comfortable behind the camera....
