Saint Viator was No Match for Our Boys in Red

Marian faced St.Viator for the annual Homecoming football game on October 9th. Homecoming is a time for alumni, students, and staff to come to George Harding Field to watch the Canes play. Homecoming King and Queen are also crowned at this game. Nicole Rhodes (12) and Emitt Peisert (12) were the 2015-2016 king and queen. Nicole Rhodes (12) made a comment about the crowning, “I was really shocked when the crown was placed on my head, and I just started laughing because out of the corner of my eye, I saw my friend Harper Holyoak running over to me and giving me a hug. ”

Not only was this game important because of homecoming, but the Hurricanes needed this win in order to be eligible for playoffs this season. For the Canes, the game started off a bit shaky, down 13-0 in the first quarter. By the second quarter the Canes were getting back in it. A catch from Jared Cabuso (12) put the Hurricanes on the board for their first touchdown of the game. A minute later  Jared Churak (11)  intercepted the ball and ran it back for a touchdown. Marian’s cheering section was hyped up and Marian gained the momentum.

After halftime the Hurricanes came back even stronger and scored another touchdown by a catch made by Eric Ruschke (12). Putting the Canes up 21-13. Emitt Peisert (12) was also having good day, having 214 yards rushing. Peisert also made a huge accomplishment, during this season he has rushed for 1,176 yards. By the fourth quarter Viator’s defense was no match for the Hurricanes. Luke Tegtman (12) got Marian their fourth touchdown of the game. Peisert (12) also finished off the game with a touchdown. Joseph Budmayr (12) Varsity Quarterback threw for 6 complete passes for 48 yards. The Hurricanes beat St. Viator’s 33-13.

The Canes current record for the season is 5-2 and they are now eligible for the playoffs this year after this huge win.
