Finding sound effects, playing music, keeping track of mics, and occasionally dancing in the booth during rehearsals kept senior Julianna Ignacio busy during theatre productions. She took on the position of Sound Head this year for the Fall Play, Spring Musical, and Variety Show. Seeing the 8th Grade Visit Day presentation for theatre originally made her want to join, and being in her middle school musical at St. Margaret Mary helped her realize that crew was more appealing to her than being onstage. Ignacio’s four years in theatre were dedicated to learning the many facets of working in the booth, and making hilarious memories with the tech crew.

The 2015 spring musical, Once Upon a Mattress, was Ignacio’s favorite show to work on, primarily for the fun antics with the other people in crew. Ignacio told how during the show,“the current head of sound, Liam, would make all of us get up and dance in the booth when the chorus would be practicing onstage. We also liked to try to make the cast break character when they would look up at us when they were performing.” Before leaving to attend Loyola University to study psychology, she would like to thank all the people in tech who make her enjoy theatre, especially Nick Teteak (12), her Co-Sound Head; and Meggie Wells (12), honorary tech member. Working in the booth isn’t easy but Ignacio advises, “Stay focused, try to be quiet during shows, have fun, and dream big.”
