Stepping onto Wrigley field for the first time in 2014, utility player Javier Baez, had no idea he would eventually be one of the most successful Cubs players of this postseason. Two seasons later, he is now the co NLCS MVP, second base starter and a fan favorite.

Baez is from a town called Bayamón in Puerto Rico. His love of baseball came from his father and is in his blood. Baez and his brother even got matching tattoos of the Major League baseball logo“as a sign of respect and love for the game.”  When Baez plays the game you can tell his love of the game comes from deep within him.

Baez is a clutch player with unbelievable understanding of the game of baseball. He uses his athletic ability to play the infield, and even makes swinging the bat look easy. He brings a new style and flare to the game, making it enjoyable for Cubs fans to watch. The Cubs roster is filled with many young talent like, Anthony Rizzo (1B), Kris Bryant (3B), and Addison Russell (SS). They all have had a great postseasons so far, as expected, but Baez has really shined through on this stacked roster. He has shown consistency throughout the postseason.

Baez’s numbers in the postseason can only get better from here. He has  a .318 batting average and .833 OPS with 13 hits, 1 home run, and 7 RBI’s. He has even made some impossible defensive plays, that onlookers and opponents marvel at.

In game 1 vs. the Dodgers Baez stole home off of catcher Carlos Ruiz and lifted the Cubs to 3-0 lead. Joe Maddon has sung Baez’s praises saying “He’s just being himself, he is not afraid of making mistakes, and I love that about him.” Kyle Hendricks pitcher for the Cubs said “Baez is the most natural baseball player I have ever seen.”  He has made many major league plays in his short career with the Cubs and has more to come from the bright young star. Baez and the Cubs take on the Cleveland Indians in game one of the World Series on Tuesday.
