After breaking two records, a second consecutive trip to state, five ESCC all-conference awards including the award for Coach of the Year and Player of the Year, the Hurricanes Girls’ Volleyball season comes to a close.

This year will hold an even more difficult goodbye for the players and coaches as ten out of the sixteen person roster were senior girls. Those seniors were rewarded for their dedication and success through their volleyball careers at Marian Central with a red carpet walk on their senior night. One duo in particular will have a tough time saying goodbye: seniors Sydney Nemtuda and Mckayla Wuensch. The two have been teammates for twelve seasons. Looking back on their season Mckayla Wuensch adds:“It’s crazy to think that volleyball at Marian is over. These last four years have been so incredible and the friendships I’ve made through this sport have been amazing. I can truly say that the last four years playing volleyball for Marian Central have created some of my best memories”.

With an impressive record of 40 wins and 2 losses, the volleyball season was a success. Having lost some key players last season, the Hurricanes had players step up to those big roles and execute impressively. Seniors Meghan Schwallie and Brenna Koch filled in the shoes of 2016 graduates Alex Kauffman and Rachel Giustino flawlessly. All players on the team contributed to their overwhelming success this year, which ended with them placing second in state overall.
