Ugly sweaters have become a popular trend around Christmas time, but the cost is starting to get out of hand. Luckily, there are some fun and cute alternatives to finding the perfect ugly sweater.

#1. DIY

Diy can be a great choice and look really nice. Making your own sweater may seem like a lot of work but it can be super fun and even look better than some of the ones you find at a store. There are a few different diy ways to make a sweater. If you are good at knitting you can find some really nice patterns online. There is an ebook you can download for free called The Best of the Worst Ugly Sweaters. It has six different designs to chose from to make a great ugly sweater. You can also buy or take things you have lying around, put them together and make something really cool. A good example is a christmas tree ugly sweater. All you need is a green sweater, a hot glue gun, tinsel rope, and puff balls. If you really want to get creative go to the dollar store and buy a tree topper and little plastic ornaments to add on your tree sweater.

#2. Thrift Stores

Thrift stores can be amazing, people can find some of the coolest things there. Sometimes you go into a thrift shop thinking you won’t find a thing and end up walking out with far more than you expected. A good place to start is your local thrift stores. If you live in Woodstock you can try and visit Sparrow’s Nest. In McHenry you can try  their Sparrow’s Nest or Pink Door Thrift Shop. Crystal Lake has Bethesda Thrift Shop or On Angel’s Wings Inc. These are only a few of the shops you can go to. If you’d rather stay in than go out to shop here are some online stores to check out too: http://www.shopgoodwill.com/ and  https://www.swap.com/.
