Sometimes finding gifts and decorations during the holiday season can be difficult and expensive. These are hopefully a few fun ways to make things and little bit easier.

#1. Hot Chocolate Kit

The hot chocolate kit was suggested by Heather Korczyk (12). It is a fun, sweet way to warm up someone’s holiday.  Korczyk  said that her mom makes them for people all the time and they absolutely love them. All you need is a jar of some sort, unsweetened cocoa powder, milk powder, powdered sugar, chocolate chips, some candy cane pieces, and mini marshmallows. The jar can be decorated in a cute way to make it special for each person you give it to.

#2. Peppermint Bath Bombs

Laura  Black (11) chose this fun gift for your friend or loved one that loves to have their own mini spa day. They can be made in any fun festive shape you’d like to put them in. Black commented, “For the most part they were pretty easy to make and they were fun to use.” All you need to know about how to make the bath bomb can be found right here:  http://www.hometalk.com/6024806/diy-peppermint-bath-bombs-you-ll-love-these-festive-fizzies

#3. Custom Oven Mitts and Pot Holders

Grace Dawson (12) gave the website she used to make some fun  oven mitts and pot holders.  Dawson said “They were super easy to make and my grandmother really loved them.” Don’t worry if you are not that into sewing because all you need is sewing machine and some dollar store oven mitts. Another easy way to make them  is to use a hot glue gun.

The how to for the oven mitts and pot holders in the picture can be found here: http://www.hometalk.com/2607294/1-store-oven-mitts-pot-holders-with-ruffles?expand_all_questions=1

#4. Snowman Mason Jar

Mrs. Widmayer suggested this dazzling idea that makes a good gift or decoration. Mrs. Widmayer said, “It’s super easy to make. All you need to do is paint a mason jar to look like a snow man, put some white Christmas lights inside and stick the cord out the top, you can also use an electric tea candle if that’s easier, and then make a little felt hat and put it on top.” This idea is a great  gift or decoration, as well as  a really fun craft. More information on how to makes these snowmen can be found here: https://jensblossoms.wordpress.com/2011/12/07/snowman-jar-luminaries-day-5/

#5. Gingerbread House

Finally, one of my favorite decorations is a Gingerbread house. Making one can be a fun way to bond with loved ones, and they make for a special and cool decoration. You can buy a kit at Jewel, Meijer, Walmart, or other stores. If your a little more on the adventurous  side,  a good recipe to make a house  from scratch can be found here: http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/gingerbread-house-recipe.html
