The Lady Canes’ basketball season officially came to an end after February 14th’s regional game. Though it was a very tough loss against Richmond Burton, the girls overall had a successful season. Though Marian was up 35-14 at halftime, a lucky shot with seconds remaining in the fourth quarter changed everything. Marian was leading 51-50 when Richmond Burton’s K.C. David made a buzzer beater 3 point shot to take the lead over Marian.

Though it was a devastating loss, Junior Vanessa Garrelts reached her thousandth point in her varsity career. She scored a total of 23 points during the regional game, but only needed six to reach this milestone. Grace Shukis (12) and Katie Littner (11) both had scored seven points, Marge Palmer (11) had six, and Emily Radecki (12) ended with four.

The Girls’ Varsity Basketball team ended their season with a record of 10-18. The Sophomore girls team had a record of 16-7, and the freshman team ended with a 14-8 record.

Looking back at the Lady Canes’ season, senior Grace Shukis said, “I am very proud of my team and the season we achieved. We have a very close team so we stick together when the games get tough.”
