Sarah Zabala  first became invested in Writer’s Society her freshman year at Marian, and since has become a pivotal member and a leader of the club. She is a creative force behind the club, and helps to come up with many of the activities they do during the club, one of her favorites is “Six Word Stories,” a take on Ernest Hemingway’s own six word story: “For sale, Baby shoes, Never worn.” Another activity that Zabala enjoys is “write arounds” where one person begins a story, and then passes it around until everyone has had a turn to add on to complete the tale. This is a good way to get everyone in the club to participate and have a chance to write in a variety of styles. Mrs. Radcliffe is the advisor for  the club, and spoke of Zabala’s achievements and dedication saying “She was the only freshman who showed up her freshmen year, and she hasn’t missed a meeting since then.”.

To Zabala the Writer’s Society is, “a safe space for people to share their creative sides. It is difficult for most creators to share this side of themselves with others, but through this club we try to make things a little easier. The point of the club is to be open to others, whether they be fans of poetry, fantasy, short stories, novels, etc.” The many different styles people each enjoy help to bring in different perspectives in writing. Personally, Zabala mostly enjoys writing more positive writing styles saying, “I try to keep things light. I prefer to look at things in a positive manner, which I try to translate through my writing.”

Zabala is not only invested in Writer’s Society though, she challenges herself both in and out of school in her dancing and academic courses. Sarah has been a dancer for fifteen years now, four of which she has spent at her current dance studio. This past year, Sarah got first place on her solo dance piece. Academically, Sarah excels in her courses, and has taken many Honors and AP courses during her time at Marian. After much debate between several different schools, she plans on attending Notre Dame this year to major in Biology, and will later go on to attend medical school. While writing is not the career choice Zabala has chosen to take, she plans on continuing to write, possibly joining the paper or literary magazine at Notre Dame.
