When the sun goes down, and it starts to get cold, the lights turn on. The sandy beach days are over, and the leaves start to blow in as we get ready for the fall, but most importantly, the football season. The Hurricanes are back this year kicking off their first game of the year Friday night against the Johnsburg Skyhawks. The team is ready to get back to playing after having a solid regular season, and making a quarterfinal appearance. However, there will be some big changes to the lineup this year.

Last year was a senior-heavy team. After saying goodbye to those seniors, there was a hole in the quarterback position after AJ Golembeski went off to college. Now, a new player has stepped in to fill that role, junior, Patsy Riccardi (11). Riccardi has been a strong player for the Hurricanes the past two seasons. He was pulled up to Varsity as a freshman and has played slot receiver for the past two seasons. He will now be starting at quarterback, a position he has played his whole life. Riccardi said with confidence,”The team looks good this year. The key to our success will be confident, and not get in our own heads.” Riccardi has also upped his offseason training this year and has been going up against top talent to be ready for his debut this Friday against Johnsburg.

Lastly, this year’s defense has rebuilt for the exception of a two defensive lineman, Jorge Enriquez, and Patrick Kelly (12). Enriquez said the key for the defense will be to know their assignments. Enriquez also talked a bit about the size of the team,”The team looks strong right now, even though we are small we have a lot of talent to compete.” Enriquez has been with the program now since freshman year and is a strong leader on the team. He is sad beginning his final season but is looking to go out with a bang.

Now, only a day before the game, the Hurricane family is excited about the season and can’t wait to see what the Canes can do. The man to really be talked about is Air Force commit, Thor Paglialong (12). Paglialong is a hard worker and all he wants to do is win. He has a message for the Hurricane fans,”Our team is going to outwork people, we are going to be a hard-nosed football team that is ready to win some games”. That being said, get ready because the final ride starts now.
