Technology will never replace great teachers, but technology in the hands of great teachers is transformational. ”

— George Couros

The amazing teachers of Marian Central have a new tool in their teaching arsenal, the brand new 1:1 Devices! Technology has been integrated into the Marian curriculum for the 2018-2019 school year. Each student has been issued a new HP Probook x360 laptop to use for notetaking, homework, and various classroom activities. These laptops have a full 360-degree rotation and are versatile to be used for any students’ needs. The laptop also includes an HP pen that allows students to write directly on the screen. This will be very useful for engaging students in the classroom and productivity at home.

A few students shared their different feelings about the new devices. Martina Eichhorn (10) had some thoughts on using the new tech stating, “The process to get it was easy, and now we can access [school sites] at home.” The access to the files that we work with have only been available at school in the past but, now we can have access anywhere we go. This allows for better grades and communication opportunities for students. Lauren McNulty (10) shared similar thoughts saying, “Receiving the ProBook was good, and the touchscreen is nice for notes.” The distribution process was brief and helped all the students learn how to use their devices efficiently and effectively.

Teachers and students all have different ideas about what’s about to come in the future with new technology. Physical Education teacher, Mrs. Ginny Larson shared her thoughts. She stated, “I feel that for the faculty this may be a bumpy transition.” The teachers received their laptops just before the school year began and they are trying to incorporate them little by little into the classrooms.

The faculty and students have been longing to get some technology for the students and teachers for a long time. These devices are very useful for learning and can have unlimited possibilities for potential activities. This school year will show what’s to come of these new devices and how they will help students learn more efficiently.
